本研究の目的は、生成文法理論で提唱される制約等から逸脱している（ように見える）のに容認される例を洗い出し、そのメカニズムを生成文法の統語的なシステムの内外から探ることである。研究を行う上で言語現象の事実として対象としては、生成文法理論をはじめとする英語学や理論言語学の枠組みで研究されている事象のみならず、伝統文法や学習文法、さらには語法研究のコンテクストで取り上げられるような事例についても光をあてて解明する。このような研究目的と実施計画の前半として今年度（2022年度）は昨年度の研究において発掘した英語の語法に見られるネイティブ・スピーカーの判断に揺れや変化が見られる現象（具体的には 'be likely to' の「人の性向や傾向を表す」用法でのアメリカ英語とイギリス英語の違い、assing と ascribe/attribute のカバーする範囲の違いに関して辞書間で見られる違い、disdain や scorn が動詞としての機能をなくしている事実、さらには辞書等で指摘されている meticulous のアメリカ英語とイギリス英語における違いが現代のネイティブ・スピーカーの間では失われていること等）を取り入れた英語語彙に関する書籍を、研究代表者を筆頭執筆者として2022年9月に出版した。生成文法理論関連の研究としては、英語の前置詞残留構文について、空所化に関するデータが疑似受動構文においてのみ特殊なふるまいを示すことを指摘し、いわゆる reanalysis 現象とは受動分詞と前置詞の組成共有であるという分析を提示する論文を作成している。これは2023年度前半に海外ジャーナルに投稿を予定しておりその準備を進めている。
