项目摘要

2022年度は、育児休業の取得に伴い、昨年度に引き続き海外での資料調査は行わず、二次資料や既存のアーカイブ資料に基づいた基礎的な文献研究に注力した。とりわけ、アルゼンチンとウルグアイ両国における20世紀初頭のYMCAの設立から発展に至るまでの歴史的過程について、二次文献に依拠しながら分析を行った。特にアルゼンチンに関しては、ブエノスアイレスYMCAが発行した定期刊行物に依拠した複数の研究を参照し、1902年に設立されたブエノスアイレスYMCAの主たるターゲットが、最初期のプロテスタント英米人から地元エリート大学生、そして大衆の若者一般へと拡大していく過程と、その中で公的な社会政策とも接続されていく回路を明らかにした。今後の課題としては、地元の資料のみに依拠したこれらの叙述を、米国YMCA側の資料ともつき合わせながら確認することが求められる。またウルグアイに関しては、YMCAそのものについての研究が限られていることもあり、プロテスタント布教史というより広い観点からの研究を分析した。あわせて、既にこれまでの研究の中で現地にて渉猟してあるアーカイブ資料について、特にメソジスト教会アーカイブのものを中心に分析を進めた。また、隣国チリのYMCA発展史についても、近年研究が進んでいることが明らかになった。今後本研究で直接的に分析対象に含めるか否かについては検討の余地があるものの、少なくとも当地の研究者とも研究上の意見交換・協力を進めていくことには大きな意義があるだろう
