本研究は小学校の知的障害特別支援学級に在籍する児童の交流活動の実施における発達的視点から捉えた自己決定の可能性について検討することである。その為，幼児期から小学校低学年の幼児児童を対象に，「自ら決定した課題（自己決定課題）」と「他者が決定した課題（他者決定課題）」に対する取り組み状況の比較検討を行った。2021年度は幼児（年中児～年長児）を対象に実験を実施したが，2022年度は小学校の低学年児童を対象に「自己決定課題」と「他者決定課題」に対する課題従事時間の比較実験を実施した。具体的に使用した課題は「パズル課題」と「ブロック課題」の2種類である。当該年度は小学校1年生9名を対象に，自己選択課題と他者選択課題の実施における課題遂行の比較検討を行った。当初は，より多くの典型発達児を対象に実施する予定だったが，新型コロナウイルス感染症の影響により，協力校が1校となってしまった。その結果，幼児期段階の児童は，年中児は自己決定課題に対ししては，従事率が高いが，他者決定課題に対しては，従事率が自己決定課題よりも低い結果が得られた。しかしながら，年長児になると，自己決定課題，他者決定課題ともに従事率に差は見られなかった。また，小学校1年生段階の典型発達児は性別を問わず，自己決定課題に対する従事率は高く，他者決定課題に対しても従事率が高いことが明らかとなった。このことから，年長児～小学生段階の発達になると，自分で決めた課題に対しては従事率は高いことはもちろんのこと，他者が決めた課題に対しても集中して取り組む姿を確認することができた。
