A significant proportion of medieval German love lyric, or Minnesang, is transmitted in several manuscripts. As the intense text-theoretical and media-historical discussion in recent years has shown, the high level of variation in the transmission of the Minnesang should be taken very seriously. Our project intends to consistently translate this insight into editorial practice. The means to achieve this is to replace the printed book with an electronic edition. Only an electronic edition allows for the processing of the texts and their varying state of transmission in such a way that every user can be provided with exactly the synopsis that he or she needs. In addition, the text can not only be presented in an editorially modified way; it can also be presented in forms that pave the way to the manuscripts themselves, such as transcriptions or digital reproductions. Finally, the use of the electronic medium enables us to grant the public free access to all texts (Open Access). The entire Minnesang will be edited. We request a third period of a an already approved long-term project.
