急性期病院入院中の認知症高齢者を対象としたボランティア活動のシステム構築の開発に向けて取り組んでいる。平成30年度～令和2年度は、急性期病院入院中の認知症高齢者を対象とした認知症サポーターによる見守りと話し相手の介入を実施した。その結果、ボランティア活動は、やりがいを感じている反面、急性期病院という特殊な環境における見守りと話し相手であることから想定以上にエイジズムや認知症を意識し、緊張感を高めてしまうことが明らかになった。また、急性期病院に入院していることで、認知症高齢者の傷病について想像以上に意識し、不安が増長していることも明らかになった。これらの結果を踏まえ、令和3年度～令和5年度は、新型コロナウイルス感染症予防の基本的な医療知識や認知症高齢者への対応が可能な研修や認定資格を持つ退職後看護師によるボランティア活動を実施した。研究の協力が得られた11名の退職後看護師によるアクション手法を用いて、急性期病院に入院中の認知症高齢者への見守りや話し相手のボランティア活動を令和4年12月～令和5年1月～2月の2か月間介入した。急性期Ａ病院の看護部長の協力のもと病棟師長に認知機能低下した高齢者を選定してもらい、1日3名～5名のボランティアが、午前10：00～午後15：00～の2回、見守りと話し相手を、40分～60分間実施た。ボランティア活動終了後、インタビューガイドを参考に、60分程度の半構造化グループインタビューを実施した。退職後看護師によるボランティア活動の結果は、認知機能低下した高齢者への見守りと話し相手の必要性を実感していた。その理由は、見守りや話し相手のボランティア活動は、患者の笑顔が見られ安心感を与えることができたからだと述べていた。

On the first day, 3 to 5 people will be selected. From 10:00 a.m. to 15:00 p.m., there will be 2 rounds. We will hold hands with each other and implement it from 40 minutes to 60 minutes. After the end of the activity, the semi-structured project is implemented in 60 minutes. The results of the activities of the retired nurse show that the cognitive function of the patient is low, and the patient's speech is necessary. The reason for this is that the patient smiles and feels relieved.
