本研究課題の目的は，大学生等による深夜業への従事に伴って生じうる睡眠負債がもたらす影響を明らかにすることである。R４年度は，当該研究課題に関する先行研究の文献研究及び研究実施に係る予備実験を主に行った。R４年度では，新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大状況に鎮静化の動きが見られ，大学生等におけるアルバイトに係る就労環境が感染拡大以前に回帰する様子が見られた。加えて，大学におけるオンライン授業の実施など，学修環境がそれまで以前と比較して変化したことを考慮し，調査の実施時期や調査票の構成について再検討を行った。本研究課題における研究１では，大学生等におけるアルバイト就労及び睡眠負債と健康状態・修学状態に関する短期２波縦断調査を実施する予定である。この目的は，大学生等が深夜業のアルバイトに従事することに伴う睡眠負債が健康および修学状況に及ぼす影響について検討することにある。そのため，Web調査モニターを利用し，深夜業への従事者・非従事者の大学生を対象とした２波縦断調査を実施する予定であった。先行研究のレビュー等を行い，調査票の作成計画を進めた。調査票は（1）睡眠関連変数数（起床・就寝時刻，睡眠時間，睡眠の質など），（2）アルバイト就労関連変数（深夜業の有無，勤務時間数，労働環境など），（3）健康関連変数（疲労，抑うつ状態など），（4）学業関連変数（授業への欠席，履修科目に対する単位の取得数など）で構成し，第1時点目の調査では（1）～（3）を測定し，第2時点目の調査では（4）を測定することとした。これらの調査を実施することで，深夜業への従事や短時間睡眠，睡眠負債がその後の健康状態や修学状況に対してどのような影響を及ぼすかを検討する。また，研究２の実施に向けた機器の動作確認を行い，研究の遂行に向けた計画の立案を進めた。
