新型コロナウィルス感染症の流行もようやく落ち着きを見せ、2022年８月上旬より現地調査を実施した。五ヵ年計画の四年目から調査対象はワカ・ファチョとなる。ファチョは比較的小規模な祭祀用基壇であり、シカン遺跡北部に位置するファチョ＝マヤンガ複合の一部をなす。この基壇ではモチェとワリという二つの文化の折衷的な様式の多彩色壁画が見つかっており、モチェからシカンへの過渡期における社会の様相を明らかにしようとする本研究の対象として最適である。ところが、ファチョは1959年にフォードによって最初に調査されて以来、調査者による報告書が未刊行であり、その位置が不明であった。後にドナンが自らの調査にもとづいてフォードの野帳を再解釈し、その結果が出版されることになったが、その内容にしたがって現地を踏査してもファチョらしき基壇は見つからなかった。シカン遺跡があるポマ森林国立歴史保護区を管理するSERNANPの協力を得てようやくその場所を突き止めたが、基壇の位置だけでなく、形状や大きさ、建築軸もドナン（1978）による記述とは大きく異なっていた。基壇の北側麓で5 x 5mの発掘区を設け、試掘を行ったところ、褌姿で後ろ手に縛られ、跪いた人物をかたどった石製スプーンが出土した。モチェとワリの二つの文化の折衷的な様式であり、本研究の対象であるモチェからランバイェケへの過渡期に使用された基壇である可能性が非常に高まった。2022年度後半、別のプロジェクトで実施した、ハンディLiDARシステムを用いたシカン遺跡の三次元モデリングの結果が明らかになった。計測後に完成した点群データからデジタル地形モデルを作成したところ、ファチョ＝マヤンガ複合の北端近く、夏の発掘区から北西に約700mのところで、ドナン（1978）の記述と完全に一致する基壇が見つかった。現地で確認したところ、これこそがファチョであるとの確信を得た。
