项目摘要

本研究の目的は、初期近代英語期の口語英語コーパスを歴史社会語用論の立場から、量的・質的に分析し、その特徴を調査することである。本研究課題の核心をなす学術的問いは以下の4つである。(1)初期近代英語期の口語テキストではどんなスピーチ・アクトがなされているのか? (2)観察された過去のスピーチ・アクトには、どのような言語的特徴があるのか? (3)スピーチ・アクトにおいて、モダリティ、呼びかけ語、名詞句・動詞句はどのような語用論的機能を果たしているのか?(4)観察された過去のスピーチ・アクトは、(イン)ポライトネスの観点からは、どのような特徴があるのか?今年度に注目したのは、初期近代英語期の裁判記録で、中でもチャールズI世の裁判記録の中のスピーチアクトの特徴を構文、代名詞、モダリティに注目して考察した。裁判の進行と同時に、構文、代名詞、モダリティの使用状況がどのように変化するのかを調査した。調査結果は英語論文で論じたが、被告人のチャールズI世と裁判長は、スピーチアクトのタイプには重なりがあるが、被告側の王はより多い種類のスピーチアクトを行っていることがわかった。構文的には王は1人称主語の能動態、裁判長は2人称主語の構文や受動態を多く使っていた。ポライトネスの観点から見ると、被告のチャールズI世が品行を重んじる発話をしているのに対し、裁判長は表敬を重んじる発話をしていることがわかった。この論文で上記の４つの問いに関する調査結果をまとめることができた。(イン)ポライトネスについては、同コーパスのコメディテキスト内の呼びかけ語を調査した。ポライトな呼びかけ語「親愛語」とインポライトな「卑語」の共通点と相違点を比較することにより、ポライトな振る舞いには一定のルールや語彙があるが、インポライトな振る舞いにはそうしたルールや特定の語彙はなく、多様性の幅が広いことがわかった。

The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of spoken English in the early modern English period from the standpoint of sociopragmatic theory, quantitative and qualitative analysis.
