项目摘要

本研究は、古代ギリシア世界における共同体の外交に着目し、そこで展開された外交文化を明らかにすることを目的とする。本年度は、従来の文献資料のみならず、書簡や決議として碑文に残された外交交渉に注目した。そのうち、小アジアのリュキア連邦を対象とした成果が、国際的なワークショップで行った「How can we study the Koinon in Lycia? Focusing on Its sources and approaches」という報告である。この報告では、以下の3点について論じた。(1)連邦成立の契機となったロドスとの対立において、のちのリュキア連邦の加盟ポリス全体がロドスと敵対的ではなかった。また、帝政期には加盟ポリス同士の神話的な親族関係が、外交的な書簡では意図的に改変されていたことも確認できた。「リュキア人」意識は、連邦成立後もそれほど強固なものではなかった。(2)リュキア連邦における、クサントスとパタラという２つの「首都」の存在は、加盟ポリス同士の緊張関係を示しているのかもしれない。加盟ポリス同士では稀なイソポリテイア条約の存在は、こうした緊張関係を反映していると考えられる。(3)ローマ支配下のリュキア連邦では、加盟ポリス間でも関税が課されていた。この事例は、帝政期の都市間競争の文脈で捉えられるが、近年主張される連邦結成の経済的メリットや、ローマ支配下でのリュキア人エリートの一体化に反するように見える。帝政期の連邦組織の意義については、再考が必要であろう。リュキア連邦において、従来想定されていたよりも統合の度合いが低かったという以上の結論は、加盟ポリス間同士の「外交」の重要性を示すだろう。他に、これまでの研究成果を専門外の読者に向けてまとめた書籍の一章を担当した。（長谷川岳男(編)『はじめて学ぶ西洋古代史』ミネルヴァ書房、123-141頁。）
