项目摘要

人間が生まれながらにして持つ言語獲得能力の性質を、あらゆる個別言語の構造を決定する原理と捉え、そのような普遍原理の体系、すなわち普遍文法を構築するのが、生成文法理論の目標である。本研究は、この生成文法理論の枠組みに基づくものである。普遍文法を構築するためには、ある個別言語の特性は他の個別言語の特性と比較され、提案された普遍原理が、多様性を含むものであるかどうか、多様性を含むものであるならば、その多様性が厳密に特徴づけられているかどうか、判断されなければならない。本研究では、英語、日本語の移動現象にみられる統語関係の普遍性と多様性の問題を考察した。具体的には、チョムスキーの『Minimalist Program』(MlT Press,1995)の枠組みでは捉えることのできない統語関係が、英語のWh移動現象および日本語のScrambling現象に存在していることを明かにし、「統語関係は意味のレベルで成立する」という生成文法理論が従来採択してきた仮説を破棄することを提案した。代案として、音・意味それぞれに関する解釈システムと統語システムの関係を派生的に捉えるモデルを提出し、問題となっている統語関係が説明できることを示した。本研究で厳密化された派生的統語モデルは、生成文法理論が一貫して維持してきた、統語関係および統語モデルに関する概念に変革を与えるものであり、統語理論研究に「解釈システムと統語システムの派生的関係」という新しい研究領域を開くものである。
