小笠原諸島の父島に住む「欧米系島民」の言語接触を現地調査、および文献調査によって研究した。研究は、 (1)かつての欧米系島民の言語生活状況の実態を解明することと、 (2)現在の欧米系島民の間で使われることばの言語構造と言語使用の実態を把握すること、の2点を目的としている。研究活動、およびそれに関する研究発表活動は以下の通りである。(1)1999年8月30日から9月10日まで父島に滞在し、欧米系島民の聞き取り調査と地元歴史に関する学校教材の文献調査を行った。 (2)1999年7月4日〜10日、南太平洋の独立国ニウエ島で第4回国際オセアニア諸言語学会(4th International Conference on Oceanic Linguistics)(太平洋接触言語学会(Pacific Association of Contact Languages)との共同主催)に出席し、「太平洋地域の言語接触状況の中で分析する日本小笠原諸島の接触言語諸体系」(Analyzing the Contact Language Systems of the Japanese Ogasawara(Bonin)Islands within the Context of Pacific Language Contact)という発表を行った。 (3)1999年8月1日〜8日、カナダのニューファウンドランドで開かれた第10回世界方言方法論学会(10th International Conference on Methods in Dialectology)に出席し、「小笠原諸島の英語基盤、および日本語基盤の接触言語の言語学的特徴」(Linguistic Characteristics of English-based and Japanese-based Contact Languages in the Bonin Islands)という発表を行った。 (4)1999年7月26日に函館の北海道国際交流センターの招待で、関連講演「"No Language is an Island":Two Millennia of Contact between Japanese and Other Languages」を行った。 (5)1999年11月に神戸大学国際文化学部主催の国際シンポジウム「国際語から民際語へ」に招待され、関連講演「民族語と接触言語」を行った。 (6)2000年3月に10日間に及ぶ現地で、音声・画像による言語調査を行った。 (7)研究成果の一部、および関連文献をインタネット上で公表している。

A field survey, literature survey and research on the verbal contact of "Omi Islanders" living in the Ogasawara Islands. This paper studies the following two aspects: (1) to clarify the speech life status of the European islanders;(2) to grasp the speech structure and speech use status of the European islanders. (4)"No Language is an Island":Two Millennia of Contact between Japanese and Other Languages "was delivered on July 26, 1999 at Hakodate Hokkaido International Exchange Center. (5) November, 1999:"International Language and International Language" hosted by the Faculty of International Culture, Kobe University, and "Ethnic Language and Contact Language" delivered as a related lecture. (6) March 10, 2000, during the day and at the ground, voice and image, speech survey. (7)A part of the research results and related literature are listed in the paper.
