本研究については, 児童生徒の興味を刺激し, 意欲的に学習へ参加する動機付けとなる教材教具の開発を目的とした。レーザーカッターが持つ, 教材作成における有用性は次に挙げたとおりである。1つ目の事例は, 刻印ができる素材の範囲め広さと, 巧緻性についての活用である。本校オリジナルキャラクターを革に刻印することに活用した。中学部, 高等部の作業製品販売会において, 作業の体験ワークショップを開催した際, 子供達が慣れ親しんでいるキャラクターを体験の部材に刻印したことで, 小学部児童がより作業の部材に興味がもて, 活動の導入として効果的であった。2点目の事例は, 表現の拡大化を挙げることができる。中学部での生活単元学習において, 卒業記念としてオリジナルコースター作りを行い, 自分たちが描いた絵を木材(MDF材)に彫刻することを行った。A4サイズの用紙に描き, それをスキャナーで取り込むことで拡大縮小の加工した上で, 木材に焼き入れることができるため, 描きたい図柄をサイズを気にせずに自由にデザインすることができた。卒業後に友達や自分がコースターとして使用するイメージをもって下絵を描くことができるようになった。3点目の事例は, 製品に付加価値を与えられたことが挙げられる。高等部が制作した木工製品のキャプションを木材に彫刻することで活用した。作成者の氏名を, 白く塗った薄いベニヤ板に刻印し, その上に水性のニスを塗ったことで, 普段学校で行われる手書きであったり, コピー用紙にラミネートを施したりのキャプションよりも, 一般の工業製品のような雰囲気を, 子供達が作った製品にももたせることができた。本校の国語・数学の授業では, 各グループ担当の教員がオリジナルで教材を作成し, 個々の目標が近いメンバーで構成されるグループに分けて指導している。レーザーカッターを導入したことによって, 個々の教材の質を, 子供たちが学習に向かう際の意欲付け, 動機づけにつなげるまでに引き上げることができた。
