研究目的 :本研究は、研究代表者が前年までに大学附属小学校で実践してきた読み書き指導の成果をもとに、小学校で学級担任ができる具体的な「音と文字の指導内容・指導法」を提案、その効果を検証して、学校外で英語教育を受けてきた児童も、初めて英語に触れる児童も、各自の認知スタイルに応じて「音と文字の関係性」を理解し、自らの力で基本的な初出の英単語や短い文の読み書きができるようにすることを目的とする。実施計画、経過と成果 :平成30年度から研究者は別の附属小学校に異動(6年生外国語担当)となり、新学習指導要領の移行期1年目で、勤務校では文科省作成教材「We Can! 」を使用して指導しなければならず、当初の実施計画の履行が著しく困難な状況となった。しかしながら、6年生児童に対し、英語音韻認識能力の育成を志向したフォニックスと文字指導の方法を融合した指導法(ストーリー・音とアクション・文字の確認・音の認識・ブレンディング・セグメンティング・歌などを組み合わせた指導)を試み、先行研究を活用して熟達度を測る診断テストを改変・実施すると同時に、大学で担当する小学校教職課程の大学生にも同じ指導・テストを実施・分析したところ、小学生と大学生の躓きが類似(短母音の聞き取り・発音に困難)していることがわかった。このことから、今後教科となる外国語において、「音と文字の指導」を効果的に行うには、まず指導にあたる教員が最低限の「音と文字の知識」を持ち、自信をもって発音できるようにすることが重要であることがわかった。今後は教員養成課程の学生に求めるべき「読み書きに関する指導力」の検証を行い、指導技術の獲得に寄与する指導内容・指導方法を提案・実施し、さらにその実践結果に基づいて、効果的な指導のあり方を考え、その妥当性を分析・検証し、小学校の指導現場で必要な技能を明示し、その技能の獲得に有効な指導内容と指導方法の確立が必須であろう。
