本研究においては、隼人を中心に対南島人・蝦夷政策との比較も含めて、古代天皇制に中国の政治思想がどのような影響を及ぼしているのか、その中で隼人はどのように位置付けられるのかについて考察を行った。『日本書紀』および同書編纂時にかかる『続日本紀』の隼人関係記事の語句/文章の語義や典拠を、各種工具書やデータベースを用いて調査し、仏書を含め中国文献との比較を行った。また、これらの成果をもとに中国文献/中国思想に基づき述作された『日本書紀』及び『続日本紀』の隼人関係記事の思想的分析、すなわち隼人のイデオロギー的位置付けについて、特にその時期的変遷の分析を、天皇制との関わりを注視し行った。その結果、以下の結論を得た。①隼人の名義について、特に「隼」の用字を中心として、これまで諸説あったが、漢籍に描かれた「隼」像には、「小人」あるいは「夷狄」として表象されたものもあり、このように漢籍にマイナスイメージで登場する「隼」像が隼人の名義のもととなっている可能性を指摘した。②『日本書紀』編纂時、すなわち天武朝から養老年間までの隼人関係記事を分析すると、隼人が中国的夷狄概念に関わる用語で形容されるのは、おおよそ養老年間までであることが判明した。③南島人および蝦夷と隼人の政策上の位置付けの差異を検討したところ、実際の政策上の隼人の位置付け、隼人のイデオロギー的な位置付け、そしておそらく隼人の法的位置付けは、微妙にズレを有し、必ずしも重なり合わないことが判明した。以上の研究について、本年度は2篇の論文を公表することができ、また、同様のテーマで1編が近く公開予定である。さらに、学術書専門出版社から単著公刊の依頼があったため、本研究の成果をもとにした単著を現在執筆中である。

This study focuses on the comparison between the policies of Austronesians and barbarians, including the influence of ancient imperial system on the political thought of China, and the investigation of the position of Chinese people. Japanese Book Chronicle and Chinese Book Chronicle are compiled in the same book, and the semantic meaning of the sentences/articles recorded in Japanese Book Chronicle and China Literature is compared with that of various reference books. China Literature/China Thought Foundation: An Analysis of the Thought of "Japanese Book Chronicle" and "Japanese Book Chronicle," an Analysis of the Position of "Falcon" and "Falcon" and an Analysis of the Transition of the Special Period, and an Analysis of the Imperial System.
