1. 今年度、データ収集に関しては、昨年度の英語に引き続いて今年度は日本語を中心に行った。電子化された日本語テキストとして、毎日新聞、及び朝日新聞の電子ブック版CD-ROMの中から、「まで」を含む用例を抽出し、その中から該当する例を抜き出すという形で資料収集を行った。さらに、日本語の母国語話者からの聞き取り調査という形での資料収集も実施した。日本語用例の詳細な分析は現在もなお続行中ではあるが、おおよそあらかじめ予測していた通りの結果が得られるのではないかと考えている。また、英語に関しても、昨年同様、untilを含んだ文を抽出して例を抜き出すという作業を続行した。2. 資料収集に関しては、日本語・英語共に、テンス・アスペクト、非能格性・非対格性、動詞の意味構造などに関する文献の収集・調査を昨年に引き続き幅広く行った。本研究が前提としていた非対格・非能格の区別が、動作主性や、事態の変化などといったより基本的な意味要素に基づいている可能性があることが判明し、本研究に対しても重要な示唆が与えられた。このような収集・調査過程で、上智大学の言語情報研究所において、未刊行論文などを中心に資料を収集した。3. 平成10年11月1日、山口大学にて開催された第117回日本言語学会において、「事象を継続的に解釈させる名詞句の性質について」という題名のもと、昨年度研究をおこなった英語に関する成果を中心に研究発表を行った。また、日本語と英語の両方の研究成果を総合的にまとめた論文を、「金沢大学教育学部紀要」に投稿することを予定している。
