本研究では、読書、及び読者についての研究について幅広く調査すると共に、それらが現在どのような有効性を持つのかを考えることをねらいとしている。今年度は、これまでの調査によって収集した関連文献データを、検索可能なデータベースとして一般公開するとともに、日本文学研究の領域にとらわれずに、広く情報の受容能力にかかわる研究について調査し、日本文学研究との接点について考え、それを実践的な研究として論文化していった。具体的には二つの方向で研究をすすめた。一つは、現在の情報環境についての諸論を、読書文化という観点から検討し、映画やビデオゲーム受容と、読書能力との相互関係について検討した。さらに、情報通信技術と現在の出版文化や文学教育との関係について、読書論の立場から検討し論文化した。前者については今年度発表し、後者については来年度発表される。もう一つの方向は、具体的にいかに読書文化は成立してきたのか、についての史的な調査の方向である。今年度初頭にまとめた論が、中央の印刷物によって読書を史的に論じる方法をとっているのに対し、さらに地域研究の成果をいかしながら、どのようにそれらが地域において享受されていたのかを考え、調査した。この内容については来年度学会において発表する予定となっている。
