今年度は、1900年前後の経済雑誌、実業雑誌を中心として、文学表現とのかかわりを調査した。そうする中で、これまでほとんど文学研究の領域では調査されていなかったジャンルである「立志小説」の特性を調査、分析し、研究発表を行い、論文化した。これによって、「実業」や「立志」をめぐる様々な表現と当時の読者の関係があきらかとなった。実業雑誌や経済雑誌の中で生まれてくるこれらの小説群は、「殖民小説」というジャンルをも派生させている。国内での立身出世が、海外への移民や海外での成功と、どのような形でつながりあっているのか、を問題としてとりあげるとともに、それらを表現と読者の関係として史的に解明して行った。この研究は現在も継続中であり、既に発表した論に続けて、引き続き論文化の作業を進めている。また、この問題に関係する雑誌「殖民世界」の目次と主要記事をデータベース化するとともに、インターネット上であわせて公開した。また、文学研究において、読書についてなされている研究の現状を考え、その可能性を探るため、読者や読書についての研究論文のデータベース化を進めており、現在は、過去10年間で400件分をデータベース化し、その公開の準備を進めている。この成果については、読書論の方法的な性質や、研究領域を越えた可能性を検討する形で今年度、既に研究発表を行っており、来年度中に書店より読書論の選集として刊行することとなっている。それとともに、読書論、読者論についての最新情報をインターネット上でデータベースとして公開する準備も現在進めている。
