生物学に現われる非線形非平衡現象の一つとして栄養培養の下でのバクテリアのコロニー形成実験がある。この実験結果の特徴は2次元パターンであり、更に環境条件を規定する2つのパラメター領域において、パラメターの値に依存して定性的に異なる5つのパターンが出現することである。この結果は、分岐現象の言葉で言えば、バクテリアのコロニー形成の大域構造を示していることになる。本研究ではバクテリアのコロニー形成を、解の大域的構造を理解する視点から捉えることを目的にする。そのために現象を記述する2次元反応拡散モデルを導出し、その解析を実験に対応する2つのパラメターに関して大域構造の視点から行った。先ず差分法による数値シミュレーションを行い、実験結果を再現する満足いくべき結果が得られた。このことからパラメターの解構造への大域的依存性を示すことが次の問題であるが、今の所、成功していない。しかしながら、今回の成果はバクテリアのコロニー形成の理解を非線形反応拡散モデルの解の大域的構造を理解するという問題に帰着出来たことであり、解析については次回への宿題としたい。
