The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between sport town and community development. Two questionnaire surveys were conducted : one was the survey of sport town using the specific funds and the other was the survey of sport town through prefectural governments.The results showed that 351 cities and towns declared "sport or health town". The figures indicated that 10.7% of all cities and towns of Japan were the sport and health towns. The findings also showed that sport towns could be categorized by four types : sport event type, sport facility and camp type, and sport rezort type. Four types of sport towns were presented by the date obtained. Based on the above results, several suggestions were presented to develop the sport town.

摘要本研究旨在探讨体育小镇与社区发展的关系。进行了两种问卷调查，一种是专项资金对体育小镇的调查，另一种是通过地级政府对体育小镇的调查。结果显示，351个城镇被宣布为“运动或健康城镇”。数据表明，日本所有城镇中有10.7%是体育和保健城镇。研究结果还表明，体育城镇可分为体育赛事型、体育设施与营地型和体育休闲型四种类型。根据所获得的数据，划分出四种类型的体育城镇。在此基础上，对体育小镇的发展提出了几点建议。
