项目摘要

本研究は、これまで看過されてきた第二次世界大戦中のオーストラリア日系人強制収容所に関する文学を対象とする。アジア太平洋地域に拡散していた「日系人」たちがさまざまな民族的・地理的な出自背景をないがしろにされ、オーストラリアの「敵性外国人」として強制収容された事実は、研究蓄積の多いアメリカやカナダのケースと均質化することなく、比較して論じる必要があろう。近年、Cory TaylorやChristine Piperといった必ずしも日本にルーツを持たない作家が日系強制収容を描いている。これらの作家の作品を通して、地域、世代、人種・民族を超越して共有される日系強制収容の物語の展開を明らかにする試みは、決して一元化しえない多様な日系人の記憶の再考を促進し得る。2022年度は、主な日系オーストラリア文学作品の資料収集や作品分析に費やした。分析した作品はTaylorによるMy Beautiful Enemy、PiperのAfter Darknessである。Taylor作品では白人同性愛者の看守が、Piper作品では日系人医師というエリート人物が、語り手に設定されており、社会階級、ジェンダー、民族などの交差的影響に着目しながら分析を進めた。並行して、オーストラリアと同じく太平洋地域に位置する「島」という観点からハワイの日系人作家Juliet Konoについて検討し、日本アメリカ文学会にて口頭発表を行った。また2023年2月に、シドニー博物館、オーストラリア国立博物館、国立公文書館、タツラ灌漑・戦争時強制収容所博物館などで資料の閲覧および収集を行った。タツラ博物館では、収容所元看守のJ.S.氏が収容所の様子を記した私家版の手記（絶版）に目を通すことができた。また同博物館では北米の場合と同様、オーストラリア強制収容所内でも文芸活動が行われていたという事実を確認した（残念ながら刊行物は未収蔵）。

This study has examined the literature related to Japanese culture in the Second World Congress. In the Pacific region, the Japanese people are scattered, the ethnic and geographical backgrounds are scattered, and the Japanese people are forced to study the accumulation of Japanese people. In recent years, Cory Taylor and Christine Piper have been involved in Japanese culture. The author's works are open to different regions, generations, races and nationalities, and the development of Japanese compulsory language is open to the public, and the unity of Japanese people's memories is promoted. Data collection and analysis of literary works in 2022 My Beautiful Enemy, Piper and After Darkness Taylor's works are about the guards of white men who have sex with each other, and Piper's works are about Japanese doctors and characters, language settings, social class, information, and ethnic differences. In parallel, the Japanese writer Juliet Kono wrote a letter to the Japanese literary society. February, 2023: National Museum, National Public Library, National Museum of Science and Technology, National Museum of Science and Technology J. S., the curator of the museum, wrote a note on the private edition of the curator (out of print). In the same museum, the situation is the same, and the cultural activities in the museum are confirmed.
