デジタル技術を人文学に応用する人文情報学を導入し、複数の大規模国際プロジェクトを連携して「インド学仏教学新知識基盤」（Next-RBIB）の構築を目指す本研究は、採択後この２か月の間に、分担者会議を２回、分担者・連携研究者による会議を１回、いずれもメールを通して開催し、この４年間の計画の基本方針を周知し、合意することができた。若手研究員２名は、研究会議のフレームワークの準備、海外研究者との交渉、会議の成果のまとめをはじめとして、代表者、分担者、連携研究者が中心となって進める本事業を支えるために、貴重な役割を果たした。これによって計画の全体像を、ほぼ決定することができた。この短期間にも、以下の注目すべき成果が得られた。第一に、ブリティッシュコロンビア大学（カナダ・バンクーバー）において進める大規模プロジェクトであるCERC (Cultural Evolution of Religion Research Consortium)プロジェクト主催のシンポジウムがモントリオール、マギル大学で開催され、その会議に、本プロジェクトの代表者下田と分担者ミュラーそれぞれ招待されて、発表したことは、現在のプロジェクトをNext-RBIB へと拡大発展させるための、重要な布石となった。第二に、京都大学で開催された井筒東洋哲学フォーラムにおいて研究代表者・下田が招待講演をなした。これは仏教研究の方法論を、東西比較哲学というアプローチによって解明するための重要な契機となり、その後、International Association for Shin Buddhist Studies（米国・バークレー）, International Association for History of Religion（ドイツ・エアフルト）での発表成果の基礎をなすものとなった。
