School education in Japan faces to a transitional period from modern era to postmodern period. This transition reflects the end of paternalistic features of Japanese education that has been enhanced by the Central Government or 'Monbusho' since the beginning of Meiji regime. Modernizing the nation coincided to the modernization of educational system and continued to be stable until very recent period. Due to the recent development of ICT, we confront to the ever-changing society and need to learn ceaselessly to adopt new situations and frameworks, especially in education. This research project started from the philosophical review of postmodern feature of school education and advanced to recent trends of free school movement, new research methods and technologies and issues of teacher education.

日本的学校教育面临着近代向后现代的过渡时期。这一转变反映了自明治政权开始以来，由中央政府或“文部省”强化的日本教育家长式作风的结束。国家现代化与教育体系现代化同时发生，并且直到最近一段时期才保持稳定。由于信息通信技术的发展，我们面对不断变化的社会，需要不断学习以适应新的情况和框架，特别是在教育方面。本研究项目从学校教育后现代特征的哲学审视出发，深入到自由学校运动的最新趋势、新的研究方法和技术以及教师教育问题。
