项目摘要

ウイルス病の科学と、ウイルスの分子生物学的研究が、よい連携で進行する研究環境の設立を目標として、以下の活動を展開した。1.ウイルス学の現状を分析し、わが国で推進する攻究課題を明らかにするために、失端的研究を展開している約40名の研究者の参加を得て、「現代ウイルス学の課題」に関する研究集会(1988年11月5日、東京大学山上会館)を開催した。2.わが国におけるウイルス学の教育研究体制の問題点を探り、その解決の方策を検討するために、指導的立場にある約50名の研究者の参加を得て、「現代ウイルス学の課題(II)」の研究集会(1988年12月24日、東京大学山上会館)を開催した。その討論のなかから、"ウイルス研究推進の提言"がなされ、とくにウイルス学領域での重点領域研究の設定の緊急性が指摘された。3.研究集会での提案に基づき、科学研究費重点領域研究申請が検討され、平成2年度発足を予定して、RNAウイルスを対象として「RNAレプリコン:構造・機能と増殖機構」を申請した。4.ウイルス研究推進のための資料として、"VIRUS GENOME"と"VIRAL RNA POLYMERASES"の2種類の印刷物を作製し、広く関係研究者に配布した。5.ウイルス研究推進方策を継続的に検討する組織の設立を、日本ウイルス学会に提案し、具体化が決定された。
