本研究は、Fr.フレ-ベル(1782〜1852)が1831年、カイルハウ教育舎没落後、スイスにその教育活動の場を移し、1835年、ブルクドルフの孤児院長に就任し、36年5月カィルハウへの帰還(正確には、1836年5月14日、ブルクドルフを離れ、妻の遺産の処理のため、ベルリンに向い、そこで9月まで過し、その後、数ヶ月カイルハウに留まった)迄の5年間に論究の対象を限定し、この間におけるフレ-ベルの幼稚園教育への傾倒とその実践及びその思考の深化、転換を解明しようとするものである。その際、フレ-ベルの遺稿及び書簡を駆使することによって、今迄のレンゲ版三巻本に依拠するフレ-ベル研究を克服し、新しいフレ-ベル像の提示を図った。特に、フレ-ベルが自己の教育学理論をその書簡において発展させたことを考慮して、Gumlich編、Luck編、Hoffmann編のスイス時代の書簡、更には、Hoffmann,Nichter編のフレベル版第五巻(1986年)そしてLotte Geppert編の資料集中の書簡を利用した。〔研究成果〕本研究からえられた主要な知見を要約すれば、以下の通りである。1.フレ-ベルの晩年の幼稚園への傾倒は、その遊具の思考、具体的な思物の考察もすべてこの「スイス時代(1831〜1836)」の実践によるものと結論されること。2.一般に1836年論文「1836年は生命の革新を要求する」がフレ-ベルの思想転換を示すものと考えられるが、それも「スイス時代」の実践が主要なモメントであること。3.フレ-ベル教育学の中心概念である「生の合一」概念もこの時期の遊戯理論の教育学的根本構造として用いられたこと。以上の成果から、フレ-ベルのスイス時代の教育実践は、思想の深化・転換をうながし、後期の幼稚園教育の実践を確実なものにした。
