本研究は、一般にきわめて難解とされているフレーベル(F・W・A・Fr【o!¨】bel,1782〜1852)の教育論,とりわけ「遊具論」をその思考の背景をなしている「シンボル」(Symbol)の思想ないし「シンボル界」(Symbolwelt)の思考との関連で解明しようとするものである。〔研究成果〕本研究から得られた主要な知見を要約すれば、以下の通りである。1.フレーベルの「シンボル」概念の特徴として、全体的には、自然及び人間的生の現実それ自体がシンボル的なものと考えられている。従って、シンボル的に世界を見ることは人間の純化としての教育に直接に関係することになる。そのように理解されたシンボル的表現を、フレーベルは、(1)数学的規則性において、(2)言語的な像において把握する。前者は、「事物シンボル」、後者は「像(ビルト)シンボル」として表現されている。2.フレーベルの「シンボル」概念の「遊具論」への展開。一般にフレーベルの「遊具論」は「恩物論」にそれが代表されているが、それは(1)「事物の象徴的表現」として展開されているものである。具体的には、(1)幾何学的シンボルとしての円,直線,点であり、(2)無機的自然からのシンボルとしてのボール,球体,立方体であり,(3)人間の生活領域からのシンボルとしての道とから家,はしご(段),糸と糸玉等である。いずれも「恩物論」に展開されているものである。〔今後の研究の課題〕「像(形象)シンボル」を表現した作品として、フレーベル晩年の家庭育児書『母の歌と愛撫の歌』(1844)があるが、フレーベルのシンボル論のもう一つの柱として論究する必要がある。62年度科研,一般研究Cとして申請中である。
