The aim of this project is to investigate the nonlinear dynamics of reluctance force dampers for the vibration reduction of mechanical structures. The reluctance damper is connected to electrical networks, which can be used to influence the damping behavior. The challenge is the nonlinear overall response, which has already been analyzed in preliminary studies for resistive and resonant circuits. Based on the knowledge gained so far, the following objectives were formulated for this project. 1. The response of the reluctance force damper is to be investigated for multi-resonant circuits, comparable to piezoelectric and Lorentz force transducers, for the damping of multiple vibration modes. 2. A lumped-elements model of the magnetic circuit based on static finite-element analyses is to be developed for efficient computing. 3. Linearization of the system equations is to provide an analytical view of the relationships in order to estimate the expected damping behavior. 4. The nonlinear system behavior of passive reluctance force dampers with different circuits is to be analyzed numerically on single- and multiple-degree-of-freedom vibrational systems.
