「神義論(Theodizee)」というものを、倫理的な善を為しながら禍を負うという事態への説明原理と捉えるなら、日本思想の中でそれに相当するものとして、(1)仏教の因果応報説、(2)神道の善悪二神論、(3)儒教の「天命」論、などが想起される。しかし、信徒が既存の世界像ではどうしても自身の境遇・体験について納得がいかない、これを的確に説明してくれる世界像を提示してほしいという訴えを提起し、それに応じて宗教関与者の側が苦慮の末或る世界像の展開をもたらして信徒の疑念に応える、というウェーバーが「神義論」という名のもとに描いてみせたようなプロセスが日本の諸思想のもとにあったのか、と問うてみると、実はこうした信徒と宗教者との対話のプロセスを容易には見出せない。信徒が自己の境遇を説明してほしいと宗教者に要求すればそこに何らかの説明が示されるだろう。ところが、その際に信徒はそこで納得するか、あるいは説明への欲求に見切りをつけるか、いずれかに収まるのではなかろうか。とすれば、信徒の疑念から宗教者の世界像再構築へというダイナミズムつまりはウェーバーのいう「神義論」は見出せないのである。では、なにゆえにこのダイナミズムが見えにくいのか、という問いを立ててみると、(1)現世とは隔絶した異質な意味世界を構築しない・(2)道徳的「善悪」を明確化しない・(3)個々人が独立した主体でそれぞれが対等だという意識がない・(4)個々人の善悪以外にその幸不幸を左右する呪術的力が存在・(5)世界を知り尽くそうとするロゴス化・整合化を断念、といった諸要因が浮上してくる。それぞれについての立ち入った考察は今後の課題としたい。なお、以上の研究成果の一部は、平成7年度東京大学大学院人文社会系研究科に提出した博士学位論文『ウェーバーのエ-トス論の倫理学的継承-ウェーバー宗教社会学の基礎概念についての一考察』の中で提示した。

The main body is equal. The consciousness is equal.(4) The force of the art exists.(5) The world is fully known. We are looking forward to exploring the future. A part of the above research results was presented at the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology, University of Tokyo in 2007. The doctoral thesis "On the basis of ethics-An investigation of basic concepts in sociology of religion" was presented.
