戦後の国立大学の研究組織(研究組織体系)の構造およびその変化は、学問の内在的論理のみによるのではなく、日本の経済社会状況、学術政策、社会の大学に対する期待といった社会的コンテクストに影響され、大学の社会的機能・役割と密接に関係する。本年度は、こうした観点から大学組織の構造と機能を明らかにしていくための基礎的な作業を行った。まず第一に、研究組織関連資料の収集と整理を行った。組織分析の枠組みに関わる文献(科学論、科学史、大学組織論等)、政府刊行の統計資料(日本学術振興会等の資料も含む)、個別研究機関の資料等を収集した。個別機関の資料については、幾つかの大学に訪問し、インタビュー等も行った。第二に、その資料の分析を行った。研究組織のタイポロジー、大学の研究組織(講座・学部、研究所・研究センター等)の大学組織全体の中での位置づけに関する理論的枠組みの構築、この枠組みに沿った戦後国立大学の研究組織の構造的変化とその背景の分析、などの作業を行ったが、現在も分析の途中である。研究組織のタイポロジーについては「アカデミック・コアからの距離」なる概念、大学組織の位置づけに関する枠組みについては「コア組織と機能的組織」なる概念を考えた。
