本年度、主に推進した研究は次ぎの2点である。第1に、「神話学のみならず、自然人類学・遺伝学・自然環境学・気候変動学・考古学・作物学など各学問分野で作成された空間分布図の集成と、そのWEB上での検索システムの構築)に関する研究は、一言で言えば、「分布図データバンクと検索システム」の構築である。その分布図の総数は、約500である。1つの画像ファイルは、JPEGで格納し約250mbていどの情報量である。これまで、どこに、どの学問分野から、どのような情報に関する空間分布図が作成されてきたのかは、他の専門領域の研究者が共有する知識となりえていなかった。その主な原因は、他の分野に対する興味の有無よりも、その情報に到達するアクセスが整備されていなかったことに求めるべきであろう。本特定領域研究が諸学問の総合的研究を志向するものであるだけに、たとえ「日本人・日本文化の起源」をめぐる一つの研究テーマであろうとも、他の学問分野での研究成果を積極的に吸収しながら、しかもそれが容易に、誰にも開放された知識として社会に還元されるべきであろうと考える。その目的は、東アジア地域における「ヒ卜・もの・カネ・情報」の流れを検証することにある。ことなる問題意識から作図された分布図を、相互に重ね合わせることで、文化とヒトの流れを具体的に跡付けた。その方法としては、Internetを活用したWEB(http://matsu.rc.kyushu-u.ac.jp/home.html)上での公開は、もっとも適切な方法であるに違いない。第2の、「海外において推進された『日本人・日本文化の起源』をめぐる諸研究の集成」は、19世紀末から現在までの、主に欧米で刊行された雑誌論文や、学会やシンポジウムなどの席上で公表されたレジュメなどを可能な限り集成することで、研究の現段階を知ることに努めたものである。海外の研究状況に十分に接することなく進展されることで陥りがちな「単眼的研究」を恐れ、「複眼的研究」の可能性を強調するために、実施した研究である。そのデータベースは、上記のホームページで閲覧できるように構築する。論文リスト160点(ABC順に。また年代順に)を列挙しながら、最新の研究動向を記した。
