この研究では、ハイエクの進化的秩序理論から導き出される秩序原理を基準として、知識論の観点から市場制度と企業組織の関係を考察した。自生的秩序としての市場組織と階層的秩序という基本的性格をもちながらも市場原理の浸透作用を受ける企業組織とでは知識の利用および生成・創造のプロセスが異なる。市場組織は、「分散した現場の知識」をもつ諸経済主体、情報伝播機能を有する「価格システム」、および「予見せざる変化」への適応過程として機能する「競争」という三つの枠組みから「知識の発見過程の場」として理解できる。ところで、特定の目的をもたないという自生的秩序のもとでの知識生成は、多数の経済主体の動機と目的が異なるにもかかわらず達成されるマクロ的な市場秩序の調整過程のもとでおこなわれる。市場知識の特徴は、現場の具体的な知識が市場システムによって抽象化という変換を受け、価格情報として伝播するという抽象化プロセスと、価格情報に基づく個々の経済主体が具体的事情に合わせて意思決定を行い、価格という抽象的情報を再び個別に分散した具体的知識へと還元するという二面の作用としてとらえられる。一方、特定の目的を追求するために意図に基づいて設計される企業組織の内部で創造される知識は、その具体的な事業分野に固有な具体的知識として創造されるだけでなく、企業組織の知識はヴェブレンのいう「営利原則」にしたがって生み出されているために市場システムによって選択・淘汰のプロセスを経てから社会的な知識ストックに転換される。こうした対比に基づくと、市場と企業組織の双方の大規模化が生じた市場社会のダイナミックスのもとでは、企業組織が創造する知識は市場社会の発展と進化を推進するという側面だけではなく、大規模化した企業組織の市場行動が自己目的を追求するさいに市場秩序を変容させて、他の経済主体の市場競争的発見プロセスを阻害することになるという側面も現れてくる。つまり、知識生成の社会システムとして企業組織は、市場システムとの親和性を保つための市場政策的規制の対象となるのである。
