We can summarize achievements of our research work for three years as follows. First, we could collect a great number of declassified statistical data in the Russian State Archive of Economy in Moscow, and compile and publish their database to be distributed among researchers and universities. In the past the lack of those data prevented us from analyzing economic developments of the Central Asian and Trans-Caucasian countries substantially. Secondly, we could classify economic developments of the former Soviet republics into several types and show which type the Central Asian countries and Trans-Caucasian countries belong to. Thirdly, it was demonstrated that differing from the Soviet western republics which concentrated production of consumer goods, Central Asian countries were regarded as a base of extractive and heavy industries and a base of production of agricultural raw materials by the Soviet government and couldn't experience development of consumer good production. It also became clear that the Trans-Caucasian countries are located between the Central Asian countries and the Soviet western republics in terms of industrial structure. Fourthly, we analyzed social and political specific features of the countries surrounding the Caspian oil field and could find Russia's national ambiguity between resource nationalism and concerns for foreign capital. This was reached through analysis of the declassified materials of the archive. And we could reveal development of authoritarianism in the Azerbaijan politics and deep influence of the neighboring Muslim countries over social development in the Central Asian countries. And fifthly, professor Nishimura and professor Shimizu have been taking part in a committee organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work out plans of development assistance for Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Our knowledge acquired through this project is fully applied for the mission.
