Our attempt is to develop Eco-museums as local community building measures to revive local culture and the symbiosis between people and nature, aiming at community exchange and relations in a wider scale, based on the re-use of local regional resources. The aim of the present research, focused on Tango region of Kyoto prefecture, is to investigate the potential values of the cultural, lifestyle and natural resources of this region by making a database and further, to study and build the basic concept of an Eco-museum as a Local Community Building where local nature, culture and people can be approached as a living museum or stage. As a result of our research on the regional farming, forestry, craftworks, local food customs, traditional entertaining arts, water resources, flora and fauna, landscape, etc. we discovered the precious value and joy to observe the close-to-nature self-sufficient lifestyle and we clarified a future direction to develop eco-museums as local community building to create a guests-attracting and pride-breeding region. As a result, it becomes clear that: 1)Ecomuseum is a museum or stage of all things that each region wants to preserve, transmit or enjoy. 2)We are searching for the local proto-landscape (original landscape) by considering the beauty and lights of agricultural mountain villages in terms of beauty of living created in the process of life (beauty in everyday life). 3)It is important to preserve and transmit the beauty of local area's nature and living culture not by inserting them inside designated buildings or facilities, but in their original places. 4)It is important to consider local area is 'lights' or attractions as creating the pride of each local area, revitalizing them within the everyday life of the area.
