项目摘要

15年度は、エメサのエウセビオスの解釈学を明らかにするため、アンティオキア学派を特徴づける「適応」(シュンカタバシス)を彼がどう理解していたか、を扱った。具体的にはまず、釈義的文書の一部がギリシア語原典で残されているので、それを詳細に検討することにより、彼の具体的な聖書解釈の根底にある適応論を読み取っていった。次に、彼の適応論が示されているラテン語訳を中心としてシリア語訳、アルメニア語訳で残されている釈義的文書及び講話も、逐次検討した。最後に、そのようにして明らかになったエウセビオスの適応論の特徴を彼の同時代のギリシア語圏及びシリア語圏の著述家と比較し、その独自性と共通性を明確にした。エウセビオスによると、聖書の表現は神的な事柄の本性をそのまま伝えたものではなく、人間が理解可能な範囲で伝えたものである。したがって、人間が聖書を読む時、この原則を踏まえて、低次の表現が使用されているからといって、その事柄自体が低次のものだと誤解してはならないのである。このような適応論自体の大枠はシリア教父のニシビスのエフライムと共有するものではあるが、その細部まで一致するのはアンティオキア学派を代表するギリシア教父ヨアンネス・クリュソストモスの思想である。一方でこれは、適応論という解釈学上の要点において、学派の「創始者」エウセビオスからアンティオキア学派への強い影響関係を裏付けるものである。他方で、彼は両方の言語の話者であるので、シリア語圏とギリシア語圏との間の何らかの影響関係の媒介の役割を果たした可能性が高い、と言える。
