项目摘要

本研究では，ヴェーダーンタはウパニシャッドの聖典解釈学（ミーマーンサー）であるという観点から，その根本綱要『ブラフマ・スートラ』の後半，特に第3巻第3章と第4巻第1章に関して，ヴェーダーンタがいかにミーマーンサーの解釈学を活用したかを解明する。本年度は第3巻第3章に関して，冒頭の総論論題およびサーマヴェーダ祭官の中心歌詠Udiithaを念ずる瞑想法を説く諸論題を中心にその内容を精査した。またこの章においては，個人がヴェーダの流派にどれほど制約されるのかという点で，ヴェーダーンタがミーマーンサーとは異なる考え方を打ち出していることが分かったので，ミーマーンサー学派におけるヴェーダ流派観をも精査した。論文「Brahmasutra成立史の再検討―第3巻第3章について―」は，『ブラフマ・スートラ』が，自分個人でウパニシャッドの念想をする限りでは，他の流派のウパニシャッドで述べられている対象の属性を自由に統合してよい，また他流派の念想を連結しても選択してもよいと認めていることを解明し，これによって，ヴェーダーンタは，個人が所属するヴェーダ流派を超えてテキスト解釈における個人の自由裁量の余地を大きく認めていることが判明した。また論文“Tolerance and Intolerance in Kumaarila’s Views on the Vedic shaakhaa”は，ミーマーンサーの代表的学者クマーリラが，バラモンには自分の家が代々帰属しているヴェーダ流派のテキストを専ら学び次世代に伝承することが義務付けられていると強調しつつも，他流派のヴェーダをも自派と対等なものとして尊重すべきことを力説していることを解明した。
