本研究課題の大きな目的は、少子化/高齢化が経済のファンダメンタルズに与える影響がいかなるものであるか、また、どのような経路を通じてそれらが生じるのかを明らかにすることであった。少子高齢化の経済分析においては、ほとんどの先攻研究が、人的資本の蓄積やR&Dのプロセスの効率性(蓄積関数のパラメータなどで表現)を所与にして、少子化/高齢化が人的資本の蓄積やR&D活動に与える影響を分析してきたが、本研究の視点は、少子化/高齢化が、人的資本蓄積やR&D活動や生産活動の「効率性」、つまり、経済構造そのものに対する影響を考えた。そこで、長期の経済分析の主要な分析道具である経済成長理論を分析の道具として用いた。経済成長論の分野における先攻の実証分析では、人的資本とR&Dの役割が重要視されていることから、理論モデルにおいて、まずは、人的資本が経済成長の厳選となるようなモデルを構築した。ベンチマークとして構築した理論モデルは、人的資本を蓄積する3世代が重複して存在し、うち2世代が生産活動に関わる内生的経済成長モデルである。そこでは、人口成長率などの外生ショックや経済政策が経済成長にどのような影響を与えるかということが、企業が異なる質や年齢の労働者をどのように組織するかということに依存することを示せた。そこで、動学的一般均衡モデルのなかで、さらに企業内部の意思決定をより詳細に記述しようとしたが、その目的を達成することはできなかった。ただし、このような方向での研究は無いので、今後も引き続き検討していく。
