本研究の目的は、幼い乳児をも心的世界を有した存在とみなし、心的観点から子に関わろうとする傾向である、養育者のmind-mindedness(Meins,1997:以下MMと略記)に注目し、MMが子どもの心的理解発達に与える影響を長期縦断的に検討することである。研究第1年目において、生後6か月児の母親を対象に、独自に開発したMM測定実験を実施、MMの個人差を量と質の両側面から測定した。本年度は、この母親とその子の追跡調査を実施した。まず、生後18か月時点での母子相互作用の観察、子どもの心的理解能力実験について分析し、先に測定された母親のMMとの関連を検討した。得られた主な結果は次の通りである。量的に豊富なMMを有していた母親は、生後18か月児との母子相互作用場面の中で、実際に、自子の内的状態に関する言及を多く行っていた。高いMMを有する母親は、日常のやり取りの中に心的語彙を多くちりばめ、子どもが心的概念を理解する足場を提供していることが示唆された。次に、「心の理論」獲得の重要な先行因として考えられている、共同注意能力に注目した実験結果から、量的に豊富なMMを有している母親の子どもは、自分の視野外(後方)に向けられた他者の指差しに正確に反応し、他者と注意を共有する能力が高いことが明らかになった。,MMが、幼児期の「心の理論」獲得のみならず、より早期段階の心的理解能力にも促進的効果を持っている可能性が示された。また、母親記入型による子どもの語彙理解に関する質問紙調査の結果から、MMを高く有する母親は、子どもがより多くの語彙を理解できていると報告しやすいことが示された。さらに本年度は、生後36か月時点における、母子相互作用の観察と、子どもへの各種実験を行った。MMと、「心の理論」以外を含めた心的理解能力との関連について、3歳代の知見を得るため、得られたデータから順次分析を行っている。
