目的:小児看護領域での患児にとっての男性看護師の必要性と男性・女性看護師での役割の違いを明らかにする。対象と方法:本研究への協力が得られた施設に入院中の患児に半構成的面接を実施し、逐語録を作成し内容を分析しコテゴリーに分けた。倫理的配慮:調査対象となる患児とその保護者に書面および口頭で研究内容を説明し研究協力の同意を得た。結果および考察:対象は慢性疾患で入院中の患児5名。内訳は男児3名,女児2名で年齢は15歳〜18歳であった。男性看護師との関わり経験として、4名は現在関わりがあり1名は過去に関わりがあった。【入院中の患児にとっての必要性】対象者5名とも男性看護師が必要であると考えていた。男児自身はもとより女児も男児にとっては必要であると考えており、特に男児にとって男性看護師の存在が求められていた。【遊びの中での必要性と役割の違い】体を使う遊びやスポーツの場面で男性看護師を求めていたが、これらの関わりを女性看護師にはほとんど求めていなかった。【相談相手・話し相手としての必要性と役割の違い】日常会話においては、男児・女児ともさほど看護師の性差に関係なく会話をするが、悩みや将来のことなどを相談する時は同性である看護師の方が自分の気持ちを理解し、共感してくれると考えており、同性の看護師の存在を求めていた。【羞恥心を伴う場面での必要性と役割の違い】入浴介助や陰部に関する治療・処置場面では患児は異性の看護師との関わりを極端に嫌がり同性の看護師の存在を強く求めていた。【モデルとしての必要性と役割の違い】特に男児において男性看護師の考えや経験、日常生活の様子について情報収集し自己の将来の参考としていた。【性役割発達での必要性と役割の違い】性に関する内容の話を男児は男性看護師には積極的にしており、男児の性役割の発達にとって重要な存在となっていると考える。
