本研究は、美術鑑賞活動における触覚が果たす役割について、鑑賞者の発話分析から明らかにしようとするものである。調査方法は、鑑賞者が作品から受ける印象・感覚を彼らが発する言葉から分析する。その分析から美術作品から受ける「触覚性」の側面を見いだすものであった。分析の結果として、鑑賞者の発話を意味内容別に美術作品から受ける「触覚性」について分類することができ、美術鑑賞における触覚の特性や役割の一端を明らかにできたと考えている。それは、「○○のような感触」といった鑑賞者の経験した身体感覚へと同一化させようという働きが最初に表れるということ。その後「○○とは少し違う」といった自身の身体感覚と分離あるいは拡張させる働きが表れる。言い換えれば、鑑賞者のイメージの広がりをもたらす重要な要素を「触覚性」が担っていることを示すことができた。この考察を踏まえ触覚を重視した美術鑑賞教材の開発を行った。開発にあたっては、財団法人たんぽぽの家(奈良市)や医療法人直志会袋田病院(茨城県)など行われている障害をもつ人たちの芸術活動や彼らをサポートする人たちの活動を観察・調査を行った。特に多くの示唆を得たのは、盲目の造形作家である光島貴之氏から指導を受けた立体コピー作成機による作品鑑賞である。紙に描いた部分を浮き上がらせるこの機器を使用し、美術作品の輪郭線を触覚で感じることができる鑑賞教材を開発した。この教材により鑑賞者は、「かたち」への関心や「作品の材質」への興味が顕著にあらわれるようになった。また、鑑賞した作品の特徴を他者へ触覚で伝える題材をこの機器を用いて行った。この題材は、作品のもつ触覚性を理解することで、作品の特徴を再現し伝えることができる。また伝えられたことが理解できる興味深い題材となった。課題としては、立体コピー作成機では再現が困難な作品について教材開発を進めることと、作品の「触覚性」に関して鑑賞者の属性により変容があり、研究を進めていきたいと考えている。
