Study of modern traditional gardens in the age of Urbanization

Traditional gardens are symbols of wealth and power in the course of modernization among new rich people. In that sense, traditional gardens belong not in the past but in the modern age.In this study, typical modern traditional gardeners and patrons they belong in the new rich class are analyzed in detail; namely, OGAWA, Jihei the gardener, and patrons such as HARA, Tomitarou, and SHIBUSAWA, Eiichi.In this study, important gardens in the age of urbanization are selected and analyzed. Some of OGAWA's works, HARA's Sankei-en garden in Yokohama, and SHIBUSAWA's Aii-sonsou garden in Tokyo are deeply analyzed and described.As a conclusion, this study showed the essence of traditional gardens as a expression of the spirit of modern age.
