神経難病の一つに多発性硬化症(MS)がある。その動物モデルとなるのが、マウスの実験的自己免疫性脳脊髄炎(EAE)である。われわれの研究室で見出された突然変異マウス-pltマウス-(ケモカインCCL19/21がない)は、EAEを発症しにくいことを見出した。このケモカインの欠如で、EAEの原因となるTh17細胞がみられず、これは樹状細胞(白血球の一つ)がIL-23を分泌しないためであった。この結果はMSの治療法開発につながる可能性がある。
