本研究は、薬物性歯肉増殖症の発症リスクを病態が似ている強皮症の活動指標であるファイブロティックアクティビティの概念に基づいて評価する試みである。すなわち、質量分析法を用いて薬物性歯肉増殖症患者の歯肉溝滲出液（GCF）中のタンパク質を網羅的に解析し、薬物性歯肉増殖症に高濃度に検出されるバイオマーカーとなり得るタンパク質を探索する。さらに、探索したタンパク質の歯周組織での局在を明らかにし、患者の歯周組織をアウトグロースさせて得た上皮細胞または線維芽細胞から、そのタンパク質の遺伝子発現の解析、細胞からの分泌量の定量を行うことで薬物性歯肉増殖症の病態とバイオマーカーになり得るタンパク質との関連を明らかにすることを目的としている。平成24年度は質量分析法を用いた歯肉溝滲出液中の薬物性歯肉増殖症発症マーカーの探索を試みた。徳島大学病院歯科を受診した薬物性歯肉増殖症患者（responder:R）、該当薬剤服用中でも歯肉増殖症を認めない患者（non-responder:NR）、該当薬剤を服用していない歯周病患者（Periodontitis:P）、健常者（healthy:H）のうち同意の得られたものを本研究の被験者とした。部位別の歯肉増殖症の判定、歯周ポケットの深さ、歯肉出血、歯肉炎指数などの歯周病の臨床指標を検査した後、ペーパーストリップ法にて歯肉溝滲出液を採取し、ペリオトロンを用いて容量を定量した。6人の被験者から計58サンプル（R:29、NR:23、P:5、H:1）を得ることができた。
