项目摘要

今年度、20世紀を代表する小説家・劇作家であるサミュエルー・ベケットの1940年代の制作方法を、言語やメディアといった視点から統一的に記述することを第一の目標とし、さらに、20世紀のフランスとイギリスの舞台芸術とベケットの関係についても論じることを目指していた。サミュエル・ベケットの1940年代の分析については、過去2年の研究をまとめつつ、今年度は、4つの個別研究(うち2つの研究論文と1つの研究発表を含む)を行い、ベケット研究の締めくくりを行った。具体的には、40年代前半の戯曲『エレウテリア』、会話体小説『メルシエとカミエ』、40年代後半の小説『マローヌは死ぬ』から戯曲『ゴドーを待ちながら』への進展、さらに40年代との比較という視点から、30年代を論じた。この総括として、博士論文『サミュエル・ベケットの〈切断〉の詩学-1940年代における〈メディア的思考〉-』を提出し、審査を経て博士の学位を獲得した。ベケットが50年代以降、ラジオ、映画、テレビなどのテクノロジー・メディアを駆使する作家へと変貌する点から着想しつつ、40年代を、〈メディア的思考〉、すなわち、表現の媒体への強い反省的意識の発見と展開という視点から、従来のジャンルによる分類を相対化し、一人の作家の創作の深化のプロセスを記述した。一方、20世紀の舞台芸術の研究については、ツァラ、アルトー、ブレヒトらの著作の分析を行ってきていたが、成果として形にまとめるところまでは至らなかった。今年度は、全体として作業にやや時間がかかってしまったことで、研究の一部の成果を公にすることができなかった。この点は反省すべき点であるが、博士論文を中心とするベケット研究は十分に展開され、総じて一定の成果を挙げたと考えている。
