Basic research of how language processing speed affects written and spoken language comprehension

注意语言输入对记忆很重要。本研究以日语和英语两种语言为研究对象，采用反向Stroop和Stroop测验对两种语言的注意能力和选择性注意能力进行了测量。我们调查了三组参与者：将英语作为外语学习的日本大小学生和以英语为母语的大学生。主要研究结果如下：1)在母语为日语和英语的人中，母语加工能力均优于外语加工能力。2)日本大学生的加工能力和自动化程度显著高于日本小学生。3)自动化程度因群体不同而不同。

Attending to language input is important for memorization. This study focused on two languages, Japanese and English and used the reverse-Stroop and Stroop tests to measure attention ability and selective attention ability related to accessing and storing the two languages. We examined three groups of participants: Japanese university and elementary school students studying English as a foreign language and native English speaking university students. The main results were as follows: 1) The ability to process in the first language was superior to the ability to process in the foreign language among both native Japanese and English speakers. 2) The Japanese university students' processing ability and automaticity were superior to those of Japanese elementary school students. 3) Automaticity differed according to group.
