本研究は、ベトナムにおける「伝統医学」が歴史的に形成されてきた過程と、現代ベトナム社会でどのようにそれが実践されているかを明らかにすることである。本年度は4月から8月までの前半はベトナム・ハノイにて現地調査を行った。調査の目的は、ハノイの第三国家文書館、つまり国立公文書館で1975年以降のベトナムにおける保健省の記録と、1946年以降南北ベトナムが統一するまでの北ベトナムの保健省の公文書を閲覧することであった。しかしながら、前年度の5月から突如予告なしに改修工事と目録整理が始まったため、閲覧は不可能なまま中断している。次年度の夏には必ず目録の整理が終わるとのことなので、閲覧が可能になった時点で作業を再開する予定である。調査期間中は、代わりにフランス植民地期に植民地政府が行った医療事業のうち、伝統医学および当時の伝統的医療活動に関する文書群を閲覧した。これらの文書群からは、フランス領インドシナにおける産婆についての資料を得ることができた。産婆のような伝統的「在来知」を植民地政府がいかに扱ったかを解明することで、ベトナム医療社会史の中の伝統医学のみならず、伝統的医療をめぐる制度・社会の変遷を具体的な辿ることのできる視点を得ることができた。なお、秋に日本へ本帰国して以降は、国際学会でこれまでの研究成果を発表した。学会でのパネル発表では、ベトナム伝統医学がこれまで中国や韓国の医療史における伝統医学を参照しながら近代史の中に位置づけられてきたのとは異なり、モンゴルという新たな視点が加わったことが、大きな収穫であった。本研究は、ベトナムにおける医療社会史研究に貢献するのみならず、中国由来の医学・西洋からの医学・在来の医学の三つが中国文化圏において鼎立し、それぞれのシェアが変動してきた諸地域との比較研究へ発展させることができる点において、大きな意義があるといえる。
