项目摘要

本研究の到達目標は、豊臣政権内に存在するカトリック修道会と政権との交渉に介在する人物たちの交渉における具体的な役割、また、彼らの活動の政権内における位置づけである。本年度は成果として二本の論文として投稿した。一本目は「在日フランシスコ会士と小西行長―マルティン・デ・ラ・アセンシオンの報告書より一考察―」と題し、フランシスコ会士アセンシオンの二通の報告書と、イエズス会士アレッサンドロ・ヴァリニャーノの反駁書などより小西氏関連のものをあげ、フランシスコ会との交渉における行長の役割について考察したものである。行長は対外交渉において自己がキリスト教徒であることを利用し、フランシスコ会士たちと自立的に交渉していたのであり、彼の存在については、「接続された歴史」の概念におけるカトリック王国に対しての「メスティソ化したエリート」であると評価できるとした。二本目は「豊臣政権の対外交渉と取次慣例」とし、修道会交渉を含めた豊臣政権における対外交渉が国内で対大名間交渉に用いられていた取次慣例の延長であったことを指摘し、論証したものである。以前から豊臣政権の「取次」の理論が対外交渉にも敷衍されていたことについては指摘していたが、史料の再検討を通じ、政権から公的な役割とされる「取次」に限らず、政権構成員の個々の知音関係を活用した取次慣例が対外交渉全般にも活用されていることを示した。豊臣政権期には「取次権の安堵」と同様のことが対外交渉においても行われ、そのために交渉相手の国別に交渉担当の領主が異なるという現象が起こり、また交渉に携わった領主の政権側からみた位置づけの違いから、近世期以降も交渉の続く朝鮮や琉球といった国々と後に断交することとなるスペイン・ポルトガルとで交渉の形態が分かれており、近世期の対外関係の基礎が豊臣政権時に成立していることを改めて指摘できるとした。
