项目摘要

東国寺社の研究を進め、佐藤博信編『中世東国の社会と文化』に発表した、「室町期鶴岡八幡宮寺寺僧組織の基礎的考察－若宮別当と二十五坊供僧を中心に－」では、鶴岡八幡宮の別当・供僧がそれぞれ若宮・本宮を権力基盤としていたことを明らかにした。さらに勝長寿院や下野日光山について、中世社会、国家における位置づけについて検討を試みた。次に京都の顕密寺院については、『鎌倉遺文研究』37号に、「鎌倉末期から南北朝期にかけての聖尊法親王の動向―三宝院流定済方の分裂とその影響―」を発表し、醍醐寺の鎌倉末期から南北朝期にかけての、醍醐寺三宝院流の複雑な内部対立の事情について検討を行い、南北朝末期に三宝院院主が弱体化した要因として、鎌倉末期から南北朝はじめにかけて発生した、三宝院流内での覇権をかけての聖尊と賢俊という二人の僧侶の対立が挙げられることを明らかにした。また、『千葉史学』68号に発表した「南北朝期・室町期における東国醍醐寺領と東国顕密仏教界の展開」においては、醍醐寺僧を題材として、畿内寺院と東国寺院の関係性について検討した。その中で、醍醐寺院主達は、南北朝期中期以降（１４C後半以降）東国に下向しなくなるが、鎌倉後期から南北朝初期にかけて獲得した東国寺社別当職を手放すことはなく、その後も寺領等からあがる権益を保持しようとしたことから、東国の主要寺社の一部で寺院のトップたる別当が現地にいないという事態が発生し、寺院経営のあり方等をめぐって、現地（東国）にいる供僧と、別当職を保持する在京醍醐寺僧との間で対立が生じ、さらにはそれぞれの外護者である鎌倉府と室町幕府の対立をも導いていくことを指摘した。さらに、武家政権を巻き込んで畿内寺院と東国寺院が対立した具体的な事例として、鶴岡八幡宮別当と醍醐寺三宝院院主の間で争われた伊豆山神社密厳院院主職相論の検討も行った。
