本研究の目的は、日本の危機言語の1つである、琉球沖永良部語の言語生態系（言語が置かれている社会的状況）を把握し、その状況に適した言語復興研究を行うことである。今年度４月～６月は、出産と育児に伴う研究中断期間とした。それ以降の研究実施状況は以下の通りである。まず、言語生態系を明らかにする取り組みとして、沖永良部語の世代間継承の実態を、言語実験によって調査し、論文にまとめた。その上で、沖永良部語の衰退の背景にある社会的要因を、様々な年代へのインタビュー調査によって検討し、学会発表した。言語復興に向けた取り組みとして、地域住民と協働し、和泊町役場で方言研修会、国立国語研究所で「わどぅまい・しまむにプロジェクト」を開催した。沖永良部語の学習に利用できる教材を増やし、約1500語を収録した辞書アプリを公開した。「言語への目覚め（language awareness, 言語意識を喚起する運動」の一環として、言語復興についての一般向け講演を、大島連絡協議会や、文化庁主催「危機言語サミット」で行ったほか、地方新聞で島ことばに関する連載を続けた。このほか、言語復興活動が進んでいる地域での取り組みを調査するために、大学共同利用機構の「若手海外派遣プログラム」の助成を受け、ロンドン大学アジアアフリカ院（SOAS）に出向し、近年言語復興・言語普及が進んでいるマン島およびウェールズ地方の言語復興の現況を調査した。また、共同研究者と共にクラウドファンディングを実施・達成し、琉球諸語絵本の出版に向けた道筋をつけた。
