「語彙の広さ」を測ることや「ことばの深さ」を測ることを目的として開発した言語運用能力アセスメントと、数や形の直観的理解、そして知識を組み合わせて推論する思考力を測る推論力のアセスメントの2種類および通常の算数問題の3つについて、対照群となる日本語母語児童に対しての予備調査を行う観点から、小学生低学年（2～3年生）・高学年（4～5年生）を対象として小学校2校に協力を依頼し、調査を実施した。内訳は、A小学校（低学年151名・高学年151名）計302名、B小学校（低学年99名・高学年120名）計219名であった。その結果に基づき引き続き中学生を対象としたアセスメントの開発と、日本語を母語としない児童がより問題文を適切に理解し回答しやすいように問題文の多言語化を進める。さらに本年度は、協力校3校において外国児童生徒に対し言語運用能力アセスメントを実施した。対象は、C中学校10名、D小学校7名、E小学校8名であった。外国児童生徒は、日本生まれであっても、日本人児童の学年での平均得点（中学生は、日本人の小学生の成績を参考にした）に比べて、得点が目立って低い場合があった。また、調査の種類に関係なく、全体的に得点が低い児童生徒と、調査の種類によって、得点にばらつきが見られる児童生徒があった。結果を詳しく見ていくと、小学校高学年あるいは中学生であっても、1週間の日数、1年の月数、1日の時間数を正しく答えられない事例が複数あった。また、「うごきのことば」においては、「する」「着る」などの汎用性の高い語を過剰一般化して使用する様子が見られた。これらの結果について、教員へのフィードバックを行い、児童の躓きに対する気づきに繋げる。こうしたことで、本アセスメントを単なるテストに終わらせず、児童への学びの助けとなるように活用してもらえるよう、さらにアセスメントを改良し反映させる。
