本年度は、新型コロナウイルス感染症の影響を考慮し、前半は統計データの定量的分析を行い、後半はロンアン省ベンルック郡（ホーチミン市周辺の近郊農村型）での現地調査を行う予定であった。しかし、ベトナムにおいて新型コロナウイルスによる移動制限が一部解除されたものの、メコンデルタの農村地域における現地調査は依然として許可されず、後半の現地調査先を韓国の昌原市周辺の工業団地に変更せざるを得なかった。その結果、急速な成長を遂げているベトナムの総人口は1990年の約6,600万人から2020年の約9,800万人へと急増したが、同時期の農村人口は約5,300万人から6,200万人へと約17％の増加に止まり、総人口に対する農村人口の割合が約80％から63％までに低下したことがわかった。さらに、2000年代以降はとりわけ農業世帯数の減少が顕著で、それらの脱農在村人口の多くが製造業ないしサービス業へ吸収されていったことが分かった。また、ベトナムの家計調査（Vietnam Household Living Standards Survey(VHLSS)）のデータを分析した結果、ベトナムにおける脱農在村人口の大半が比較的高学歴の男性若年層であり、農村世帯の所得源が急速に多様化し、非周辺的農村変容の可能性が示唆された。一方、韓国の昌原市周辺の工業団地での現地調査の結果、1990年代までの地域労働市場におけるミスマッチングは外国人労働者の流入によって部分的に解消され、従来からの農村地域の空洞化が進んでいる中でも地域労働市場がグローバルな展開を示す新たな局面に入っていることが明らかとなった。
