1) 本年度は、特定領域研究「南アジアの構造と変動」の初年度なので、まず世界商品の概念規定を十分につめるとともに、それに該当する商品としての生糸や砂糖、コーヒー、あるいは紅茶や陶器などの生産技術について、サーベイを行った。とくに生糸に関しては、アジアからヨーロッパへの技術移転、そして再びアジアへの回帰という全体的な流れとその変容について確認した。2) そのなかから特に現代の中国製糸技術に関しては、多条繰糸機をもつ意義と役割を中心に、1つの論文としてまとめた。そこでは、日本の多条繰糸機ならびに自働繰糸機を模倣し、且つ中国経済に適応的な形へ発展させている現状が分析されている。これらの結果は、「現代中国製糸業の発展とそれを支えた要因:工場調査に基づく技術水準の検討」として『経済研究』の第50巻に掲載の予定である。またその内容については、すでにアジア政経学会の全国大会でも報告ずみである。3) なお上記の論文に含まれている製糸技術に関する情報の核心部分は、我々自身が数年前に中国で行った調査にもとづくものであった。そこでこの調査の詳細に関しても、蚕史研究会(蚕糸学会下部研究会)で報告を行った。その概要は「中国の製糸業は、いま」として同研究会第23回報告書(1998年)に収録されている。これは戦後中国における初の製糸工場調査であり、貴重な情報が数多く含まれているため、より分析的な形で公表することを、現在計画中である。
